JUNIOR COMPANY

Ages 9 to 12

DRILL Junior Company is a dance program for young people aged 9 to 12. Our most recent production was a joining of forces of the Junior + Senior company to create AGE, which premiered at The Theatre Royal - nipaluna/Hobart in August this year. Led by AD Bec Dundas, and creative collaborators Elle Evangelista & Risa Muramatsu Ray, Junior Company dancers collaborated to create this 50 minute original contemporary dance work.

Who can join in the fun?

Young people both with and without prior dance training are welcome. Junior Company focuses on developing the creative thinking, physical strength and wellbeing of our dancers, encouraging them to actively contribute to all areas of making each show. Our weekly classes builds the foundations of contemporary technique and safe dance practice, all in an inclusive, accessible and non-competitive environment.

Whilst working on productions, we hold Weekly rehearsals on Saturdays as well as school holiday intensives, working with Sound and Lighting Designers to create innovative new work. Young people do not need to attend Wednesday evening contemporary classes to take part in the project, however we encourage it to build stamina and rigour for performance and supporting the creative process.

The next Junior Company production Kaleidoscope will premiere in March at Moonah Arts Centre. To book a ticket to see the show, click the link below

WEEKLY CLASSES

Ages 9 to 12

We offer weekly contemporary dance classes for young people aged 9 to 12 throughout school terms. Currently, classes take place on Wednesday afternoons. Dancers work with DRILL Artistic Director to learn about safe dance practice, contemporary technique, floor work, duo work, improvisation, and choreography. They are a space for developing young people’s physical strength and resilience parallel to their creative expression and abilities in self-reflection.
